Elphaba and Glinda go to see the Wizard of Oz towards the end of the “The Charmed Circle”, to deal with the conflicts involving politics at the time. Elphaba is most concerned with the hardships of the Animals, and tries to fight for their rights.

I feel that Fiyero is beginning to feel for the Animals as well. Or he just feels it is morally wrong to abuse anyone: people, animals, or Animals. I wonder why he doesn’t want to talk about it more openly with Elphaba after he saw the Bear get hit?
The fight for Animal rights reminds me somewhat of the civil rights movement in the US. Luckily, there were radicals like Elphaba who fought for a race that was clearly not inferior, yet had been discriminated against for some time. Just as Dr. Dillamond was clearly brilliant, African Americans were also equally gifted as the dominant race of the time.
I agree that Elphaba feels strongly that the rights of Animals should be protected. She fights the Wizard for the Animal’s rights. The political unrest has caused this tension.
Elphie is definatley standing up for what she believes is right. She is being strong and trying not to reveal too much information to Fiyero about what work she is doing. This is obviously causing conflict between the two lovers. I think that Elphie is going to make a big impact on the fight for Animals
